As far as I know, Odette Myrtil did not live in London during WWII since that period coincided with her busiest years in film, when she appeared in 16 California-made productions between 1940 and 1945 and continued to appear in Hollywood-made productions in the years following the war as well. I have read accounts of her wartime charitable activities on behalf of fellow European-born actors who fled to Los Angeles after the rise of Nazism. Among those she tried to assist was her former mentor, the theatrical impresario André Charlot who was reduced to eking out a living on charity and from small bit parts in Hollywood movies beginning in the war years, even as his physical and spiritual health flagged. Of course, given Odette's gift for making herself useful, perhaps she used her many contacts in various worlds beyond show biz to further the Gallic cause.

I really appreciate your commenting and hope that you have a delightful trip to that area--it's particularly lovely in early Fall!
Cheers,
MoiraMoira Finniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12626493736940699514noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6141014462966058399.post-45730525913216799572014-07-23T16:43:26.575-04:002014-07-23T16:43:26.575-04:00Enjoyable bio of Odette Myrtil - I met her in Spri...Enjoyable bio of Odette Myrtil - I met her in Spring 1968 on my -so far only - visit to Princeton + New Hope in 1968 and being a British (Welsh) expatriate in Brussels for (now) well over 40 years we spoke mainly French. I remember talking about my London University French teacher (1959-63) who was in Gen. de Gaulle's war cabinet...but memory's fade etc.

I'm preparing a "nostalgia + family trip to Princeton + New Hope and your info is going to be most helpful...Thanks, Barrie
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6141014462966058399.post-7049377874102015472011-05-26T08:00:30.576-04:002011-05-26T08:00:30.576-04:00That was wonderful! I was fascinated with the range of her exploits as a performer and a businesswoman. I am looking forward to seeing Reunion in France (1942) again on Thursday, May 26th at 6am EDT on TCM now that I realize that Odette wasn't just "playing" a high end dressmaker in that movie.

Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment, friend.
Cheers,
MoiraMoira Finniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12626493736940699514noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6141014462966058399.post-44526369532015508172011-05-25T15:25:19.255-04:002011-05-25T15:25:19.255-04:00I had no idea the "Odette" of fashion wa...I had no idea the "Odette" of fashion was the Odette of the movies who so often would make me envy her poise.
