This is romance: Vertigo (1958)
In this scene from Vertigo (1957) a man deeply enthralled with an unobtainable ideal of love awaits the return of a pliant woman he hopes to transform into the image of the lost one. Hitchcock directs this splendid marriage between film,(Robert Burks with notable contributions from Farciot Edouart and crew), music (Bernard Herrmann) and actors (James Stewart and Kim Novak) which asks "What is this thing called love?"
