As many readers of this blog may be aware, I am a moderator of a classic film discussion group called The Silver Screen Oasis. I am pleased to announce that starting on Sunday, September 12th, we will have the pleasure of hosting a visit from Casey LaLonde, the grandson of a fine actress and a movie star, Joan Crawford, for a week-long conversation exclusively at the SSO. This exchange will allow registered users of the site to ask Mr. LaLonde questions about his famous grandparent's complex life and career.
Casey has had the honor of speaking with fans across the country to ensure his grandmother's legacy as a classic Hollywood icon. Most recently, Casey introduced and narrated the Joan Crawford Home Movie Collection for a standing room only crowd at the inaugural Turner Classic Movies Film Festival in April 2010. In addition to screening the Home Movies at the festival, Casey had the privilege of introducing Joan's film A Woman's Face with Melvyn Douglas' granddaughter, Illeana Douglas to a sold out crowd. A transcript of the onstage conversation and discussion of that film by Ms. Douglas and Casey LaLonde at the TCM Film Festival can be seen here .
Casey has spoken before Joan Crawford fans at UCLA, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan, as well as The Castro Theatre in San Francisco. In November 2010, Casey is scheduled to screen and discuss the Home Movie Collection at the Rehoboth Beach Film Festival in Delaware.
According to Casey, no questions are off-limits. The conversation will be honest and unvarnished. The extraordinary life and career of this dynamic, and underrated actress, spanning American life from the Jazz Age to the Seventies merits re-examination, especially since in recent years there seems to be a quiet movement to see past any controversy surrounding her life, and to truly appreciate her enduring work on the screen.
If you would like to become a member of the Silver Screen Oasis to participate in this event, please feel free to register there at the link below. If you would prefer not to register, but would like to ask any questions about the event or would like to ask that a topic might be addressed during this visit with Casey LaLonde, please contact me via this site.
As always, Casey looks forward to discussing his grandmother's life and career with people as fascinated as he is with classic Hollywood.
So, mark your calendars. You won't want to miss this! Here's the link to the discussion at The Silver Screen Oasis:
